Waking up to good news from Nepal

The Mighty Water team in the U.S. woke up to news from the field—another successful community workshop, thanks to Pokhar Shrestha through Global Health Initiatives (GHI). Change doesn't sleep, and neither does our mission.

On Thursday, the team in Nepal headed to Khanikhola Rural Municipality due to the need for clean drinking water. Khanikhola was selected because the local water sources are open and exposed.

Pukar Shrestha (Community Services Manager) and Madan Karmacharya (Maintenance Officer) at Sheer Memorial Hospital, accompanied the trip alongside the Chairman of Khanikhola Municipality. Khanikhola is about 65 kilometers from Banepa, but getting there isn't quick—about 90% of the road is unpaved, so it takes roughly 4 to 5 hours to reach the village.

Once the team arrived, they distributed water filters to 80 households. They also provided 20 additional water filters to local health care facilities, ward offices, and the Rural Municipality office. The event began with a short introduction and background, led by the Chairman of Chintaang and the ward chairman, along with the local health section officer. The 80 families were invited to the municipality hall, where we explained how to assemble and properly use the filters.

The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, and the community immediately requested our team to return. With around 200 households in the area, the current distribution only covered half the need. Local leaders have formally requested an additional 100 filters to ensure everyone in the community can access clean, safe water.
