New Hollow Fiber Filter Material
As a non-profit, we maintain the agility to select to the latest technology that is economically feasible for impoverished regions of the world. Our suppliers have developed an ultra-durable washable whole home filter. It is more durable, more environmentally resilient, and more chemically resilient.
World Water Day
World Water Day, 22 March 2021, is about what water means to people, its true value and how we can better protect this vital resource. Reflecting back on this moment, I realize the value of water in different ways.
What is a Hollow Fiber Membrane?
Hollow fiber membranes are a type of membrane technology that have been used in a variety of applications for several decades. The technology was first developed in the early 1960s and has since been used in a wide range of fields, including kidney dialysis, municipal water filtration, and portable water filtration systems such as Safi water filters.
Water For Life Report
Our most recent Water For Life Grant from the Rotary Club is a focused study evaluating solutions with remote communities of the Peruvian Amazon (including the indigenous Maijuna tribes). Our recent results from our local partners have demonstrated:
97% of 135 filters to be perfectly or sufficiently functioning after 10 months of use.
767 people are benefiting from these filters. 2015 liters of water are filtered daily, or 660,280 liters annually.
100% of filter users have informed us that drinking this filtered water has entirely removed all incidences of stomach pains and diarrhea.
Rotary Club of Iquitos, Peru
The strong results from the Water for Life grant were shared with the Rotary club of Iquitos, Peru in their December 2nd meeting. Brian Landever shared data and pictures, proud to report that filter users experienced a 100% reduction in stomach pains and diarrhea.
Just 17½ minutes a day!
We are working directly with our manufacturers to produce the most efficient filter for the harsh conditions around the world. Our latest filter system has a simple assembly, simple maintenance, and simply the fastest water flow rate possible for our cost per family. It consists of just 3 parts and flows 3× faster than our previous filter—A 20L bucket in just 17½ minutes!
Medical Equipment
The Global Access team was honored to spend the day loading a 40’ container with medical equipment with Centura Global Health Initiatives (GHI) headed to their partner hospital in Iquitos, Peru. Centura is committed to making a change in the world and we were glad to contribute.
The Challenge
The challenge for any for-profit company with a non-profit or charitable offshoot is to capture and quantify honest user feedback. Identifying problems help improve the product. However, it is culturally unacceptable to speak poorly about a ‘gift’ to the ‘giver’.
Water for Life Grant
The Global Access team of Roger and Rob travel to the Amazon to distribute and validate water filtration systems through a grant funded by the Rotary Club of Flat Irons in Boulder with support of Conapac and the Rotary Club of Iquitos.
Rwanda January 2020
Roger met with the Principal and several officials from the school where 250 children attend. They have been using a single water filter sytem for 10 months for the entire school. They stated all 250 children have been drinking the water from one filter; this requires around 40 liters each day.
